Frequently Asked Questions
How Can Counselling Help?
“The principle aim of psychotherapy is not to transport one to an impossible state of happiness, but to help acquire steadfastness and patience in the face of suffering”.
Carl Jung
Counselling is a valuable tool that can help you to gain perspective over difficult situations, develop new skills to tackle challenging moments in life, access a trained professional to process grief/loss and trauma, and make positive meaningful change.
Counselling is about supporting you to find the answers and/or make the positive change you desire, not giving you the answers or making the change for you.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Some people may find they get the benefits of counselling they need in 6 sessions and others continue with ongoing therapy. There is no perfect number when it comes to engaging in counselling services. This will be decided by yourself and your counsellor and changes as you progress through your therapeutic journey.
What Should I Expect In The First Session?
The first session can be shrouded in mystery for those who have never accessed counselling. For those that have, the first session can still look different. During your first session at Refresh Counselling, our counsellors will discuss confidentiality, informed consent and how they can support you. This will be a time for you to ask questions about what future sessions might look like and what therapeutic interventions will be used. But most of all this first session will be about developing trust and building a safe environment for you.
